Your draft is finally complete—all your ideas, evidence, and careful reasoning are down on the page. But it needs some help to become polished and compelling. Maybe the structure isn't quite right, or your most important points feel buried. Maybe your draft needs to be substantially shortened or reworked for a different purpose.

Comprehensive editing fits between copyediting and developmental consultation: it's hands-on editing at multiple levels, from individual phrases up through big-picture organization. I’ll fix grammar and style issues as well as structural and organizational patterns that are getting in the way.

You’ll remain fully in charge of your ideas and conclusions, and I’ll bring editing expertise to how those ideas are communicated.

How it works

We’ll start with a conversation by email or video call to determine what your document needs. How much sentence-level polishing do you want, and how much reorganization and rephrasing? Where should I preserve what’s working well? Where should I dive in with more intensive fixes? Answering these questions will clarify the scope of my work and ensure you know what you’re getting.

Then I'll edit your document at multiple levels: reorganizing sections and paragraphs for better logic and flow, strengthening connections between ideas, condensing wordy passages and clarifying vague language, and polishing sentences for grammar and readability—plus whatever else your specific document needs.

What I don’t do is generate new content or interfere with your natural voice. I aim to make your document the best version of itself while maintaining your individual voice and style as much as possible.

Comprehensive editing is a good fit if:

How this service is different

Most editing services make you choose: get sentence-level fixes or structural feedback. If you want both, you're looking at multiple rounds with different editors, or premium rates that put comprehensive work out of reach.

My approach is different. Comprehensive editing means one editor (me) addressing your document at every level in a single pass. We’ll start with a consultation to customize my approach to your specific needs, then I’ll do the integrated work myself. You won’t be handed off between editors or stuck implementing a feedback report on your own. And because I'm working efficiently across levels at once, you’ll get professional comprehensive editing at a fraction of what agencies charge for comparable work.

What you receive

You'll get your fully edited manuscript with Track Changes showing all my edits, plus marginal comments explaining the thinking behind major changes. I may check in with you during the editing process if questions arise or I need clarification on your intent.

After your edit, I'll answer questions about my changes for free—clarifying what I did and why. For more substantive follow-up support, I offer a 25% discount on Coaching sessions and a 50% discount for copyediting on future drafts.
