Customized support for job and school applicants

Application documents require clear writing, strategic storytelling, and a strong sense of self. That's a challenging mix! I help job and school applicants craft applications that are effective and authentically theirs.

I work with undergraduate and graduate students, medical students, and experienced researchers on all types of applications: jobs, academic programs, residencies, and whatever else they're applying for. This includes the full range of application documents: personal statements, cover letters, diversity statements, CVs, and anything else your specific application requires.

How it works

The work combines coaching sessions, high-level comments, and direct editing according to the needs of each client and document. I ask questions like Why is this paragraph here? What's the story you're trying to tell? Does this detail earn its space? Then I provide the level of support your project needs—whether that's strategic guidance, sentence-level edits, or both.

I charge by the hour, which gives us flexibility to work however makes sense for your project and budget. We’ll start with a conversation about what you need, and I'll give you a time estimate upfront (no surprises). The hourly structure also means I can support you throughout your application cycle for needs big and small: reviewing a revised statement, giving feedback on your CV, drafting an email to an admissions committee, strategizing on how to address a tricky topic, whatever comes up.

For complex or extensive projects—like multiple application cycles, or coordinating materials across many programs—we can also work together on strategic planning and project management to help you organize and pace your efforts effectively.

What you receive

Deliverables vary depending on what we're working on. Edited documents come back with comments and in-line revisions marked with Track Changes. Strategic evaluations are provided as written or recorded feedback. Coaching sessions include a recording of our conversation and a list of action items. And throughout the process, you'll have me as a thinking partner and advocate.

I stay in touch for the duration of your application cycle. Clarifications on edits and comments are always free. And I love hearing updates on results!

Rates and getting started

Application services are billed at $80 per hour. An initial payment covering the first two hours is required before work begins. After that, additional time is billed as needed.

A note on medical applicants

I especially love working with medical students and residents crafting personal statements.
